Differences in the nature of thermal and reflection remote sensing have caused some difficulties and limitations in the application of thermal sensing data and its integration with reflective remote sensing. However, several studies have shown that in some cases, when combined with thermal and reflection data, it is possible to extract useful information from thermal sensing data. In this study, the effect of thermal band on image based processing; decorrelation stretch is investigated and analyzed. Therefore, after performing decorrelation stretch processing in TM and ASTER datasets, the results of the process were evaluated and compared. Calculating Optimum Index Factor (OIF) showed that the optimum band combination for differentiating lithological units of salt domes was 7-6-1 in TM and 10-9-1 in ASTER bands for VNIR+SWIR+TIR bands. Performing decorrelation stretch processing caused different areas to appear on the salt domes of Firouzabad, Fars (Konarsiah & Jahani) with different colors. The results were compared with geological map, field observations and the accuracy of processing was evaluated.
