Environmental Quality Evaluation of Izeh City Focusing on Diverse Urban Planning for Three Social Groups (Women, Children, and the Elderly)

Abstract
As a novel approach in urban design and development, diversity-oriented urban planning aims to create spaces that are comprehensive and accessible to all members of society, regardless of race, social class, age, gender, disabilities, and other differences. This approach emphasizes the principles of social justice, equality of opportunities, and the recognition of human diversity. The present study aims to evaluate the environmental quality of Izeh City, focusing on diversity-oriented urban planning and responding to the needs of three social groups: women, children, and the elderly. The applied study employed a descriptive-analytical research method. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data. For data analysis, a one-sample t-test was employed in SPSS.26. As the one-sample t-test results demonstrate, the environmental quality of Izeh city regarding indicators such as safety and security, public facilities and services, public transportation, outdoor spaces is lower than the average level in response to the needs of all three social groups. The analyses show that to achieve a diverse and inclusive urban environment, it is necessary to move from a homogenous approach to a diversity-oriented one that includes diversities and differences in urban planning and policymaking.
