Investigating the history of the government citadel, as one of the physical elements of the historical and Islamic cities in Iran, especially Yazd, can be studied as an interesting topic, which has been rarely discussed so far. In the following article, in addition to answering the questions raised about how to build a government citadel, taking into account its special conditions and characteristics, the reason for the change in the location of Darizd citadel in different historical periods, as well as how their architectural structure and decorations were made using local historical texts and research Now, the topic under discussion is referred to more precisely. Also, while examining the historical background of the Citadel in Iran, the evolution of the Citadel in Yazd has been discussed considering the physical-spatial structure of the city in different historical periods. As a result, the choice of a specific geographical location for the construction of the castle has been accompanied by taking into account security, centrality, accommodation of different social classes, connection or proximity to the capital city. The establishment of the citadel near the market, the Jame Mosque, the square and the gate of the city is considered one of the important points of choosing a citadel. Perhaps, the change of the location of the citadel in different historical periods of Drizd should be seen in the light of the shifting of the city's centrality, the expansion and development of the city, the increase of the population, the growth of the social-cultural institutions of the city. Although our knowledge about the construction and decoration of citadels in some historical periods of Yazd is still limited due to the limited information provided by local sources, therefore, archaeological studies in the future may be able to answer these questions.
