Abstract
Climatic conditions are one of the most important factors affecting different aspects of human life and activities, especially military activities, and therefore military commanders need to understand climate and environmental elements correctly. One of the strategic commanders' concerns for long-term planning is to be aware of the military climate in different areas. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the military climate in West Azerbaijan province using physiological equivalent temperature (PET) and military climate index (MCI). For this purpose, the data of different meteorological parameters of 8 synoptic stations in the province during the 25 years period (1986-2010) were used. The results of the PET showed that in May, June, July, August, September and October there is climatic Comfort for military forces in the province and from November to April in most parts of the province, slight, moderate and strong cold stress are observed. According to this index, there is no heat stress at any station in the province. The results of the MCI also showed, the most favorable conditions for military operations at the stations of West Azerbaijan are in May, June, July, August, September, October and November.
