The role of municipalities in improving the urban environment with a citizen satisfaction approach

Abstract
If we want to look for a suitable tool to create active citizen participation, we can consider gaining the trust of citizens from city officials as the most important tool. Planners always face challenges and obstacles in practice to attract citizen participation. In order to overcome these problems, implementing strategies to attract and encourage citizen participation in city affairs, including; creating a sense of trust, fair allocation of urban facilities to municipal areas, citizen consultation and local referendums, etc. is proposed. Accordingly, the aim of the present study is the role of municipalities in improving the urban environment with an approach to citizen satisfaction in Golestan city, which is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of method. The statistical population of this study was 650 municipal employees of this city, of which 242 were selected as a simple random sample using the Morgan table. In order to conduct this study, indicators of good urban management and sustainable urban development were asked from the statistical population by a questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS and Amos software. The results of this study show that the indicators of participation, rule of law, justice, and accountability have a higher priority than the indicators of transparency, accountability, collective agreement, and efficiency and effectiveness in terms of the impact of good urban governance on the sustainable development of the city. Also, good urban management has a positive and significant impact on achieving sustainable development in Golestan city.
