An Investigation into the Factors Influencing Citizens' Environmental Behaviors (Case Study: District 4 of Ahvaz Municipality)

Abstract
given the increasing environmental challenges in large urban centers, investigating citizens' environmental behaviors has gained particular significance as a key component of sustainable urban development. Ahvaz, especially its District 4, is facing numerous issues related to pollution and waste management. Understanding the factors that influence the environmental behaviors of residents in this area can help inform the development of effective policies, educational programs, and executive strategies. This study aims to identify and analyze these influencing factors as a step toward improving citizens’ environmental performance and enhancing the quality of urban life. The research is applied-theoretical in purpose and descriptive-analytical in nature and method. Data were collected through a field survey using a questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS software, employing Pearson and Spearman correlation tests. The findings indicate a significant relationship between environmental knowledge, educational level, and gender with environmentally responsible behaviors. However, contrary to expectations, no significant relationship was found between environmental attitudes and responsible environmental behaviors.
