Abstract

Drought is one of the most important natural disasters that despite the low human toll, have many economic damage. Qorveh Plain is one of the largest agricultural plains of the kurdestan province and is consideresd as the agricultural pole of province. population growth in recent decades, more and more agricultural prosperity in the region as the centerpiece of development in the province, as well as the development of small and medium industries in Ghorveh, increase the uptake of underground water resources in the region. The aim of this study is to investigate groundwater response to the drought in different eras which is studied according to the characteristics in terms of intensity and duration of dry periods. Two sets of data were used: (1) data on precipitation, evaporation, run off measured at stations Qorveh water basin and its adjacent areas 2. The wells water level data observation located in Qorveh Plain. Periods of drought in the basin stations is computed using the SPI and its relation to groundwater level changes were investigated. The results show that in the period of 1380-1390, Qorveh Plain affected by different due to drought intensity and duration and as well groundwater levels have fluctuated in different periods and in general, indicate a remarkable drop that some of it could be due to the effects of drought. On the other hand, according to the annual increase in the number of wells and discharge of deep and shallow wells, water table level in this period had a significant drop.
