Analysis of Sports Development Indicators on Urban Development with a Futures Research Approach (Case Study: Ahvaz City)

Abstract
Sports development plays a key role in the progress of cities, because it helps improve the quality of urban life by creating active public spaces and strengthening social connections. Investment in sports infrastructure not only provides new opportunities to attract tourists and increase economic income, but also plays an important role in the dynamism and sustainable development of cities. In this regard, the present study, by adopting a futures research approach and with an applied and descriptive-analytical purpose, examines the indicators of sports development on urban development in the city of Ahvaz. The required data were collected through library resources and a questionnaire, and its statistical population included 50 experts, university professors, managers and experts active in the fields of cities, urban development and sports in the city of Ahvaz. Data analysis was carried out using the Delphi method and the cross-effects matrix (Micmac). The results of this study showed that out of 23 sub-indices, 14 factors have been identified as key drivers for the future of sports development on urban development, which have the highest and lowest impact. Among them, three sub-indices of tax revenues from sports activities and events, increasing environmental awareness through events and sports activities in nature, and increasing commercial activities and sports tourism, respectively, have the highest impact on sports development on urban development. In general, infrastructural and environmental development, being in the first area (influencing factors), play the greatest potential for increasing sports development on urban development and require intelligent management to strengthen their positive aspects. This is while social and cultural development factors show the least impact. This does not necessarily mean that they are unimportant, but rather indicates the need for complementary and coordinated approaches to activate these sectors.
