Reflection of social segregation in urban space (Case study: Zanjan city)

Abstract
Natural and social resources are not distributed equally in urban spaces, and this unequal distribution leads to unbalanced urban and urbanization development and causes socio-economic differences in urban areas. Cities with diverse socio-economic characteristics in the future; cause people in different regions to choose places for their dynamics (such as social status, occupational and cultural characteristics, lifestyle, income, kinship, citizenship, etc.); and this shapes the socio-economic differences of the place.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of demographic characteristics, socio-economic characteristics, housing characteristics and urban function in the spatial segregation of the city of Zanjan; how these characteristics have shaped the urban space and caused segregation in the urban space of Zanjan.

The present study is considered descriptive and survey (analytical) in terms of research method, and the field research method is applied based on the purpose. Considering the objectives of the research and its nature, the most appropriate method for collecting the required information is to use a questionnaire. A survey of 290 residents of the neighborhoods was conducted using convenience sampling, and the collected data was analyzed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis methods, and conventional correlation.

The findings indicate a gross spatial distinction between the northeastern, central, and southwestern neighborhoods of Zanjan city.

Therefore, socio-spatial inequality in different regions of Zanjan city is the result of the dynamics of the urbanization system in Iran and the result of the capitalist system.
