Abstract
Urban happiness is considered one of the most important indicators of quality of life and social sustainability in contemporary cities, and increasing attention has been given to it in urban planning and design. This study aims to analyze the indicators of a happy city in Izeh and propose strategies for improving the quality of urban spaces. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach and is conducted through a survey method. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire covering four dimensions: physical-spatial, socio-cultural, psychological-perceptual, and managerial-economic. The statistical population consisted of the residents of Izeh, and the sample size was determined to be 371 respondents based on Cochran’s formula. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and the one-sample t-test. The findings revealed that the socio-cultural dimension, with a mean score of 3.82, was in a more favorable condition compared to the other dimensions, highlighting the significant role of social capital, local identity, and social interactions in shaping urban happiness. In contrast, the physical-spatial dimension (mean = 2.34) and the managerial-economic dimension (mean = 2.15) scored below the average level, indicating deficiencies in urban infrastructure, poor quality of public spaces, and shortcomings in urban management. Furthermore, the psychological-perceptual dimension, with a mean score of 3.08, was found to be close to the average level. Overall, the results indicate that Izeh possesses considerable social and cultural potential for achieving the characteristics of a happy city. However, physical and managerial weaknesses hinder the full realization of this potential. Therefore, improving public spaces, enhancing the quality of the urban environment, strengthening urban management, developing service infrastructure, and utilizing local cultural and social capacities are among the most important strategies for moving toward a happy city in Izeh.
