Identifying factors affecting the optimal design of sports furniture in recreational parks in Ahvaz city

Abstract
The appropriate design of sports furniture in urban recreational parks plays a significant role in enhancing citizens' physical and social well-being. This study aims to identify the key factors influencing the optimal design of sports furniture in the recreational parks of Ahvaz city using a qualitative research approach and thematic analysis. Data were collected through 16 semi-structured interviews with experts in urban design, sports, and urban management. The collected data were then coded and categorized using thematic analysis.The findings revealed five main categories: technical and safety standards, aesthetics and visual design, usability and accessibility, sustainability and environmental adaptability, and social engagement and interaction. Among these, safety standards and accessibility for various user groups (children, the elderly, and people with disabilities) were the most critical factors. Additionally, ergonomic design, the use of weather-resistant materials suited to Ahvaz's climate, harmony with the park environment, and consideration of social interactions were identified as key elements in improving the quality of sports furniture. This study suggests that a combination of technical, aesthetic, and social principles should be applied in the design of sports furniture to increase public participation in outdoor physical activities
