English

Remote sensing of thermal infrared spectrum is an emerging technique for determining thermal anomalies in volcanic regions. In this research, the potential of thermal infrared imaging in the temperature changes of Sabalan volcano surface has been investigated. Large parts of this volcano are located in an inaccessible area surrounded by mountains. Therefore, to investigate the changes in vegetation cover and surface temperature of volcanic areas in the period from 2018 to 2023, OLI operational ground sensors and TIRS thermal infrared sensor of Landsat 8 satellite were used. A combination of band ratios between 7.5, 5.4 and 6.7 bands effectively show the mineral variation of volcanic areas. High thermal changes have occurred on the northern side of Mount Sabalan. This process shows the geothermal potential of Sabalan volcano. The latest image data from OLI and TIRS sensors have shown thermal changes from zero to 47 degrees Celsius in 2021. The results of the surveys show the patterns of thermal anomalies from 2018 to 2023 at several points. The distribution of these anomalies is in accordance with the LST data in the Landsat 8 satellite. NDVI values in potential geothermal locations have decreased. Surveys show that the areas with the most vegetation have been decreasing from 70.7 square kilometers in 2018 to 41.1 square kilometers in 2023. The findings of the surface temperature of the earth also indicate that the hot springs of Qoutursoi, Muil and Ilando are located in high thermal zones.
