: This paper aims to evaluate the accessibility of emergency services in the city of Khorramabad, emphasizing the critical need for efficient service coverage in times of crisis. Due to urban population growth, this issue has become increasingly important. This study analyzes the coverage of emergency services, including fire stations, ambulances, and police stations, using spatial analysis methods. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data were employed to assess service distribution and identify coverage gaps, highlighting patterns of accessibility and areas requiring improvement in urban planning.
Spatial data, urban maps, and GIS tools were used to evaluate the 5-minute accessibility radius for emergency services, calculated at a minimum speed of 30 km/h. Data was collected, processed in GIS, and mapped to identify areas with limited access.
The findings revealed that approximately 95.4% of the urban area is covered by emergency services, while 4.6% of the city, especially low-density and peripheral areas, lacks adequate coverage. These results underscore the uneven distribution of services and the need for infrastructural improvements.
GIS-based spatial data analysis demonstrates the importance of optimizing emergency services accessibility, especially in underserved areas. Similar studies indicate that uneven distribution negatively impacts public safety and increases response times during crises. GIS provides an effective way to improve emergency service efficiency by identifying and addressing coverage gaps.
Overall, the study’s results confirm the need to expand emergency infrastructure in Khorramabad, particularly in areas with limited access. Using spatial data and GIS methods can enhance emergency services and improve public safety. Urban planners are encouraged to prioritize establishing new stations in underserved areas.
