The present study, by adopting an analytical approach and aiming to investigate the process of publication and development of scientific literature related to land use planning in the context of sustainable urban development, has undertaken a comprehensive and systematic scientometric analysis. Despite the extensive efforts and numerous fundamental studies conducted by researchers in this field, the lack of a comprehensive and integrated assessment of their research achievements stands out as a significant knowledge gap. In order to fill this research gap, the present study conducts a detailed and meticulous review of 134 articles published internationally, all of which are in English and have been indexed in the Scopus citation database between 1992 and 2025. In order to analyze co-citation patterns, co-authorship networks, and keyword co-occurrence structures, the capabilities of the specialized software VOSviewer were utilized. The analysis of co-occurrence networks in the corpus of previous research related to land use planning and sustainable development indicates an upward trend in the volume of publications and confirms the increasing attention and focus of the academic community on this field of study. The findings from the co-authorship analysis reveal that, globally, the countries of the People's Republic of China, the Republic of India, and the United States of America are recognized as pioneers in the production of scientific knowledge in this field and have accounted for the largest share of publications. In addition, the results of the keyword co-occurrence clustering analysis show the formation of five distinct semantic clusters that encompass the central themes of the research conducted; these themes include: urbanization and its consequences, principles and foundations of sustainable development, spatial analysis of land use structure, and land management strategies.
