Abstract
In recent years, attention to human-centered design has gained a special place in global urban planning, and one of its prominent manifestations is the development of urban sidewalks, which provide a suitable platform for improving the quality of urban life. This study aims to identify and evaluate effective architectural criteria in improving the quality of pedestrian-centered spaces, and examines various physical, social, economic, cultural, and environmental dimensions in sidewalk design. The research method of this study is descriptive, and data collection was carried out using the method of studying library documents, scientific articles, theses, and reputable sources in the field of urban architecture and pedestrian-centered space design. The research findings showed that eight key criteria, including: sociability, comfort and convenience, visual appeal, social activities and interactions, vitality and dynamism, flexibility, environmental sustainability, and social participation, play a fundamental role in improving the quality and efficiency of urban sidewalks. These criteria synergistically create spaces that not only meet the functional needs of users, but also provide a platform for interaction, identity formation, participation, and sustainability in the city. Finally, the theoretical framework resulting from this research can be used as an effective guide for architects, urban designers, and local managers in the optimal design and management of urban sidewalks and contribute to the development of efficient, vibrant, and human-centered public spaces in contemporary cities.
