The biocity, as a new model for improving the quality of urban life, emphasizes the overlap of spatial justice, environmental sustainability, social participation, and human-centered design. The present study, with the aim of evaluating the capacity to realize the biocity indicators in Ahvaz, used a mixed approach and analyzed four main hypotheses by analyzing field data, documents, and semi-structured interviews. The findings showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between the biocity indicators (such as access to green space, environmental quality, spatial justice, and social participation) and the level of satisfaction with urban life. However, the unfair distribution of infrastructure across the city has prevented the realization of these indicators in a homogeneous manner. Also, environmental crises such as dust, wetland dryness, and the lack of green space per capita have a clear negative impact on urban livability. The weakness of planning institutions, lack of coordination between executive organizations, and a sectoral approach are also considered structural obstacles to the implementation of the biocity model in Ahvaz. Despite these challenges, the research results indicate that there is a possibility of selective and localized adaptation of global biocity models to the climatic and cultural conditions of Ahvaz, provided that integrated planning, fair redistribution of resources, and active participation of citizens are on the agenda.
