Democratic values—including freedom of speech, tolerance, civic participation, and political trust—are shaped through interaction with a society's social and cultural conditions. In Iraqi society, factors such as kinship and tribal ties, the experience of urbanization, employment type, and access to information sources can influence citizens' attitudes toward these values. This article aims to re-examine and analyze the role of media literacy and internet literacy in shaping the democratic value orientations of citizens in Iraq's Wasit Province, while considering other social and cultural variables. The study relies on survey data from a baseline research project; it is applied in nature and employs a descriptive-analytical method. The statistical population of the baseline study consisted of citizens in Wasit Province, with a sample size of 600 individuals surveyed using a researcher-made questionnaire. The instrument's face validity was confirmed by experts, and its reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Analyses were conducted using SPSS 26 and Lisrel 9 software. Regression results from the baseline study indicate a positive and significant relationship between internet and media literacy and democratic value orientations; additionally, urbanization, social capital, cultural capital, employment in the industrial and service sectors, and participation in civil society organizations contribute significantly to explaining the dependent variable. The model's adjusted coefficient of determination was reported as 0.336. As this article utilizes data and findings from the baseline study, the empirical figures and results are presented as findings of that study rather than as the product of new data collection.
